About Us
My wife and I grew up in Hueytown and met at Valley Creek when we were both 15 years old. We began dating as teenagers and were married on August 17, 1996, when I was 20 years old. This coming August, we will celebrate 30 years of marriage. The Lord has blessed us with four children, two by birth and two through adoption. Our oldest, Austin, is 24. Dylan is 21 and is married to his wife, Casey, who is also 21. Walter is 20, and our youngest, Audrey, is 15.
Our Call to Plant
At the time, I was serving as the Discipleship Pastor at North Highlands Baptist Church in Hueytown, Alabama, when I first heard that Valley Creek Baptist Church was searching for a pastor. I had no plans or intentions of stepping into that role. My heart simply cared deeply for the people there. Valley Creek was the church where my wife and I grew up, where we both came to faith in Christ, and where we were married. Because of that, we began to pray earnestly for the church.
Over the next year, the church went through a season of evaluation and was eventually identified as a replant. Not long after that, I received a call from the search committee. My initial response was this. I told them that I was honored they would consider me, but I was truly content serving the Lord where I was. At the same time, I expressed my willingness to help in any way I could.
As time passed, my wife and I continued to pray. Through that process, we came to understand something clearly. If God made it evident that He was calling us to Valley Creek, then we needed to be obedient and go, regardless of our personal preference.
In His perfect timing, God made the path clear. And we said, yes!
About Our Church Plant
Valley Creek Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist replant in Hueytown focused on revitalizing a historic congregation with a renewed focus on the Gospel. We exist because people matter to God, and therefore people matter to us. Our mission is simple: we gather in unity, grow in Christ, and go with the Gospel. We are a multigenerational church with a deep desire to see lives transformed and to faithfully meet the spiritual and practical needs of our community.
How to pray for us
Please pray for my wife and me as we navigate several roles, including my work as pastor and her leadership in our children’s ministry. We ask for prayer for our family during this financially challenging transition and for God’s provision over our church. Most of all, pray that we would be a church marked by prayer, unity, and love as we reach people from every background in Hueytown.
